SFD is patented and
further developed
The Swedish Patent and Registration Office,
SPRO (Patent- och
registreringsverket, PRV) has granted
patent and registered the trademark
and name for Safety Follow-up Dummy, SFD,
which in turn has been further
developed. The worlds first size adjustable
dummy can be fitted with both
sitting and backrest devices similar to
those of an H-point maschine.
SFD was shown for the first time two years
ago. At that time as the result
of a project work at the Department of
Injury Prevention at Chalmers
University of Technology in Gothenburg,
Sweden.
Since then it has matured from a wooden
prototype into an investigating
tool made of mainly aluminium. A number
of dummies has been manufactured
and sold in Sweden and abroad. All fundamental
principles have stayed
intact: The dummy is adjustable in height
from 1,5 to 2,05 meters
equivalent to 4'11" to 6'8". All joints
have a range of
movement identical to those of a human
being. The basic idea is also the
same: To facilitate crash investigations
and increase the possibility to
understand what caused a certain injury
by putting the dummy in the
position where the victim was found in
the car wreck.
Equipped with a sitting and backrest device
similar to those of an H-point
maschine the Safety Follow-up Dummy can
be used for many more purposes.
